The Reading Liederkranz German Singing & Sports Society runs a five-day Oktoberfest on its own grounds on Spook Lane in Reading. Eight bars pour German beers and cocktails while the kitchen turns out schnitzel, bratwurst, roast pork, pretzels and strudel, and traditional bands play through the Biergarten. Competitions are part of the draw, including stein holding, tuba blowing and a waltz contest. Sunday is a family day with a bounce house and a roaming magician, and members, under-21s, seniors and military get in free on several days.
